He published a full-length novel Suna no Ue no Shokubutsugun (The Plant in the Sand), which was his best known book and others such as Anshitsu (The Dark Room), Otoko to Onnanoko (A Man and a Girl), the very artistic work, Hon\u014d no naka (In the Fire), Deguchi\/Haikyo no Nagame (The Way Out\/A View of the Ruins), and a short story Kaban no Nakami (In the Bag). He also wrote some entertaining stories like Nezumi Koz\u014d Jirokichi, (Jirokichi, theThief) and Suresure (The Thin Line). Sh\u016bsaku End\u014d, Sh\u014dtar\u014d Yasuoka, Shumon Miura, Keitar\u014d Kond\u014d were known as the &#8220;Third Generation.&#8221;  He had a lot of fans because of his humorous essay Keihaku no Susume (Encouragement of Fribbles).
