He is a “master” who kept shooting big pieces from the Japanese movie’s foundation time until the postwar period. He released big pieces such as “Daibosatsu Toge” and “Miyamoto Musashi,” on the other hand, he also made those films with the theme of socially vulnerable groups such as “Mori to Muzuumi no Matsuri (The Outsiders)” featuring Ainu people, and “Kiga Kaikyo (A Fugitive from the Past)” featuring Buraku issues. In 1965, he complained to Toei about cutting a part of “Kiga Kaiyo” without permission, later this led him to leave the company. He collapsed while shooting “Shinken Shobu (Fight with Real Swords),” which is a sequel to “Miyamoto Musashi” and written by Daisuke Ito. On August 7, 1970, he died of stomach cancer.
