Hyakken Uchida

Hyakken Uchida(1889-1971)

He is a Japanese novelist and essayist who was taught by Soseki Natsume. His specialties included novels that depicted indescribable terror, and essays full of his unique sense of humor. He had close relations with Shinroku Natsume, who was a son of his teacher, Soseki Natsume. His name “Hyakken” was taken from Hyakken-gawa river, an emergency drainage of Asahikawa river in his home town. He died of old age at his home in Tokyo on April 20, 1971.
