Shūtarō Nanbu

Shūtarō Nanbu (1892-1936)

Nanbu entered Keio University in 1912 and majored in Russian literature. He graduated from the university in March 1917. He then worked as an administrative editor for Mita Bungaku magazine until 1920. After that, he began his career as a writer. He was financially well off but constantly suffered from diseases. He almost died from chronic asthma, typhoid, and pneumonia when he was young. He never became successful as a writer,so even now it is very difficult to obtain his books. Nanbu collapsed in front of his house on June 16, 1936 and died from a cerebral hemorrhage on June 22.
